Gallery Dam has planned an exhibition titled Winter Wind by artist Im, Chunhee for its June showcase.

Im, Chunhee captures the excitement and pleasant emotions of a winter stroll in her paintings, as if falling in love. Walking outside in the cold winter breeze, she finds joy in the experience—sometimes accompanied by her husband, other times alone. She delights in the path where the trees and their shadows embrace the wind alongside her. This happiness takes form in dancing figures, while the trees along the way seem to move with her.

In Winter Wind, Lim embodies the harmony between nature and herself through shapes of wind and dance, using bright and lively colors. Observing the works in this exhibition, one might recall the poetic lines of Christina Georgina Rossetti's Who Has Seen the Wind?—though the wind itself is unseen, its presence is revealed through the swaying of leaves and branches, prompting a deeper realization of the invisible forces around us.

Her paintings express the chill of winter but also the infinite energy and love she felt as the wind enveloped her. In the Walking Person series, Lim depicts herself strolling along, accompanied by the trees as silent companions. Winter Wind 5 showcases the artist's exuberant dance during her walk.

Im, Chunhee studied Western painting at Sungshin Women's University and pursued further studies in painting at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart, Germany. This exhibition marks her fifteenth solo show.

갤러리 담에서는 6월 전시 작가로 임춘희의 <겨울바람> 전시를 기획하였다.

임춘희 작가는 지난 겨울 집밖으로 겨울바람을 맞으며 나간 산책길에서 사랑에 빠진 것처럼 설레임과 기분 좋은 감정을 그림으로 표현하고 있다. 때로는 남편과 같이 그 길을 나가기도 하고 때로는 혼자서 산책길을 나서면서 바람을 맞이하면서 나무와 나무 그림자와 함께 하는 길에서 행복감을 느끼고 있다. 작가의 이 행복감은 춤추는 모습으로 형상화 되고 있기도 하고 길 가의 나무들도 작가와 그 길을 같이 가고 있기도 하다. 

이번 <겨울바람>에서는 자연과 혼연일체가 된 작가의 모습을 바람과 춤의 형상으로, 밝고 경쾌한 색감으로 보여주고 있다. 이번 전시에서 겨울바람이라는 작품들을 보노라면 영국시인

Christina Georgina Rossetti이 쓴 누가 바람을 보았나요? 라는 싯구절이 절로 떠오른다. 

바람을 보지 못하지만 바람이 지날 때 흔들리는 잎들과 가지들을 보면서 비로서 바람을 알 수 있듯이 보이지 않는 존재에 대한 새삼스러운 깨달음을 알게 된다.

작가는 겨울 바람이 주는 차갑지만 겨울바람 속에서 작가를 감싸주는 무한한 에너지와 사랑을 느꼈음을 작품을 보면 느낄 수 있다. <걷는 사람> 시리즈의 작품에서도 길을 걷고 있는 작가의 모습과 그 옆으로 같이 걷고 있는 나무의 모습도 보인다. 

작품<겨울바람 5>에서는 산책길에서 흥겨워 하는 작가의 춤사위도 보인다.

임춘희 작가는 성신여대에서 서양화를, 독일 슈투트가르트 국립 조형 예술대학에서 회화를 전공하였으며 이번이 열 다섯 번째 개인전이다.

Artist Statement 

The crisp, sharp air gently touched my face with each step last winter. Nearly every day, I stepped outside, immersing myself in the world of winter. Walking, I connected with the sky, the earth, and the roadside trees—crossing streams, passing fields, and strolling through forests, I felt an infinite love for nature and life, like a blessing.

Like someone lovesick, feeling alive at the sight of their beloved and lost without them, I found joy in walking and sorrow when I did not. Walking became my earnest and desperate prayer.

The excitement and thrill of my daily strolls led me to paint. It didn’t matter what or how—what mattered was being fully immersed in the moment! I felt deep exhilaration, emotions so overwhelming that I had to steady my breath. While painting, I became the painting itself.

And now, these pieces, created one by one, await you in this exhibition.

차갑고 쏴~한 공기가 내딛는 걸음걸음 내 얼굴에 기분 좋게 와 닿는 지난겨울, 

나는 거의 매일 집을 나서 겨울이라는 세계로 빠져들어갔다.

걸어서 만나는 하늘과 땅, 길가의 나무들과 교감했으며 개울을 건너고 들을 지나 숲을 거닐며 축복과도 같은 자연과 삶에 무한한 사랑을 느꼈다. 마치 상사병에 빠진 사람처럼 사랑하는 이를 보면 살 것 같고 안보면 죽을 것 같은 심정으로 걷지 않으면 우울하고 걸으면 기뻤다. 

걷는다는 것은 절박하고 간절한 나의 기도이기도 하다. 

매일 산책의 흥분과 설렘은 그림을 그리게 했다.

무엇을 어떻게 그릴지는 중요하지 않고 그 시간에 집중! 

마음속 깊이 희열을 느꼈으며 가슴 벅찬 감정때문에 호흡을 가다듬어야만 했던 시간들.

그림 그리는 동안 나는 그림이 되었다.

그렇게 하나 둘 그려진 그림들을 이번 전시에서 만날 수 있다.
