At the end of the hot summer, Gallery Dam has prepared an exhibition titled "How about a stroll?" by Ha Seon-young. As people are gradually becoming accustomed to the heat, it is thought that the refreshing feeling of trees can convey a sense of coolness to visitors.

Ha Seon-young captures the changing appearances of trees and plants as seasons shift, which she experiences while taking walks around her studio and during her various travels. The scenery seen while driving and the landscape observed while walking are quite different. In her work titled "April," she expresses the diverse colors of mountain trees showing off their hues on a spring day, and in "Gangwon-do," she captures the appearance of street trees encountered during her trip to Samcheok in Gangwon Province. "Yulgok-ro" depicts three trees found along the roadside when leaving the city center. In this way, she portrays portraits of trees that are everywhere around us with a calm and concise brushstroke from various perspectives.

Ha Seon-young majored in painting at Hongik University and studied photography at the National School of Photography in Arles, France. This is her ninth solo exhibition.

무더위의 끝에 갤러리담에서는 하선영의 산책할까라는 제목은 전시를 마련하였다. 더위가 슬슬 익숙해져 가는 이때에 나무의 상쾌한 느낌이 관람객에서 청량감을 전달해 줄 수 있으리라 생각된다. 

하선영은 작업실 주변을 산책하면서 때로는 여기저기 여행을 하면서 느끼는 계절의 변화와 함께 달라지는 나무와 풀의 모습을 느끼면서 그 모습을 그려내고 있다. 차로 지나면서 보는 풍광과 걸으면서 보이는 풍경은 사뭇 다른다.  <4월>이라는 작품에서는 봄날 여기저기 서로의 빛깔을 뽐내는 산의 다양한 나무의 색을 모습을 표현하고 있고, <강원도>라는 작품에서는 여행중에 만난 강원도 삼척의 가로수의 모습을 담아내고 있다. <율곡로>에 있는 세 그루의 나무는 시내를 나오면서 만나게 되는 길가의 나무들의 그리고 있다. 이처럼 어디에나 우리 곁에 있는 나무들의 초상화를 다양한 시선으로 담담하고 간결한 필치로 그려내고 있다.

하선영은 홍익대에서 회화를 전공하였으며 프랑스 아를국립사진학교에서 사진을 전공하였으며 이번이 아홉 번째 개인전이다.

Artist Statement

In the winter of 2024, a significant change occurred in my life. I had thought I would continue living as I always had. However, this refreshing change made me reflect on my past life and brought new meaning to my future.

I had always wished to work in a place where I could hear birdsong when opening the window. This winter, I acquired a studio where, upon entering, a beautiful forest is visible through the window. I can now see the trees changing in shape and color every day and hear various birdsongs throughout the day. When the wind blows, I ride the wooden waves along with the dancing trees in the dense forest.

Once, someone asked me, How to become happy. I told them to observe the changing seasons. After several seasons passed, they called me with a bright voice. They said they had become able to see the changes in seasons.

When I enter my studio, the beautiful scenery catches my eye first. Looking at the paintings hanging in my studio, I think I am rather clumsily arranging that beautiful world. However, I live for the joy of capturing these beautiful subjects in my own way of seeing.

When walking in the mountains, walking through the neighborhood, walking in the city, Breathing the dawn air, under the midday sun, when the evening sun shines through the trees, when the night air enters and the moonlight overlaps with the city lights, All these strolls have become an important part of my life.

All that freedom embracing me, the scent of soil, the light walking with me, that wind Become pieces of my life and continue to complete themselves toward that place.

2024년 겨울, 나의 삶에 큰 변화가 생겼다.  

늘 살아온 대로 앞으로도 살 것 같았다. 

그러나 이 참신한 변화는 지난 삶을 돌아보게 만들었고, 앞으로의 시간을 새롭게 만들어 주었다. 

창문을 열면 새소리가 들리는 곳에서 작업을 하고 싶다는 바램을 가졌었는데, 

이번 겨울, 문을 열고 들어가면, 창으로 예쁜 숲이 보이는 작업실을 얻게 되었다. 

매일 달라지는 나무의 모양과 색을 볼 수 있게 되었고, 하루 종일 다양한 새소리를 들을 수 있게 되었다. 

바람이 불 때, 춤을 추는 나무들로 울창한 숲을 보며 나도 함께 나무 파도를 탄다. 

예전, 누군가가 나에게 물었다. 

어떻게 하면 행복해질 수 있는지.

계절의 변화를 바라 보라고 알려주었다. 

몇 계절이 지나고 밝은 목소리로 전화를 하였다. 

계절의 변화를 볼 수 있게 되었다고.

작업실에 들어서면, 아름다운 풍경이 제일 먼저 눈에 들어온다. 

작업실에 걸어놓은 그림들을 보면, 저 아름다운 세상을 난 아주 서툴게 나열하고 있는 것 같다는 생각이 든다. 그러나 나는 이 아름다운 대상들을 내가 보는 방법대로 담아내는 재미로 살고 있다. 

산을 걸을 때, 동네를 걸을 때, 도시를 걸을 때, 

새벽 공기를 마시며, 낮의 태양 아래에서, 저녁 해가 나무 사이로 비칠 때, 밤공기가 들어서며 달의 빛과 도시의 조명이 겹쳐질 때, 

이 모든 산책은 나에게 삶의 중요한 일부가 되었다. 

나를 감싸는 그 모든 자유로움, 그 흙 냄새, 나와 함께 걷는 그 빛, 그 바람은 

나에게 삶의 조각들이 되어 그 곳을 향해 완성되어 간다.
