Gallery Dam is pleased to present Collected Summers, a solo exhibition by sculptor Yang Hwa-sun, in June 2026. This exhibition serves as a profound showcase where the artist expands her long-standing exploration of natural materiality and the cycles of life, utilizing the tactile medium of ceramics.

The colors and rich textures, manifested as glazes melt and flow over clay forms shaped by hand, seamlessly encapsulate the temporal essence of nature—where water currents stream and vegetation thrives. The exhibition title, Collected Summers, points toward summer as the artist's most intimate, radiant, and fulfilling season. Concrete yet sensory landscapes—a mountain spring, a blue hole, a swimming pool in Crema, and a sun-drenched container in the dead of afternoon—serve as the creative points of departure for her works.

Centering on the primary motifs of water and botanical life, these newly unveiled pieces simultaneously converse on the fluidity of vital energy and the serenity of reclusive shelter. In doing so, they gently invite viewers into the quiet suspension of summer time

 

갤러리 담은 2026년 6월, 조각가 양화선의 개인전 《여름, 썸머》를 개최한다. 이번 전시는 작가가 오랜 시간 천착해 온 자연의 물성과 생명의 순환에 대한 탐구를 도자라는 매체를 통해 펼쳐 보이는 자리이다. 흙으로 빚은 형태 위에 유약이 녹아 흘러내리며 만들어 내는 색과 질감은 물이 흐르고 식물이 자라나는 자연의 시간을 고스란히 담아내고 있다.

전시 제목 '여름, 썸머'는 작가에게 가장 내밀하고 충만한 계절로서의 여름을 가리킨다. 옹달샘, 블루홀, 수영장, 한낮의 컨테이너 — 이 구체적이고 감각적인 풍경들이 작품의 출발점이 된다. 물과 식물을 주된 모티프로 삼은 이번 신작들은 생명의 유동성과 은거의 고요함을 동시에 이야기하며, 보는 이를 여름의 시간 속으로 조용히 초대한다.



Artist Statement

The Essence of Flow and the Sanctuary of Decadence

The central themes of this exhibition are "Water" and "Plants." Water is a fluid and eternal entity, constantly flowing and springing forth. From mysterious, unknowable depths, masses of water rise — accompanied by the undulating blue of aquatic flora.

From the small mountain springs at the foot of the hills to the blue holes, the sunken pools of the deep ocean, water surges and flows as an essential existence that sustains the life of both the present and the future. It is the vital fluid of life, allowing the energies of existence to flow with absolute freedom.

In hills, rice fields, and industrial zones, square forms lie abandoned and forgotten — containers. Having outlived their purpose, they are cast aside, left to rust, and slowly erased by the passage of time. Yet for small and fragile plants, these places become an unparalleled sanctuary. Through the walls, the cracks, and the open gaps of these boxes, they stretch their vines upward and bring forth blossoms. The square box serves as a refuge for tiny plants — embracing and nurturing life even as it slowly dissolves into extinction.

 

이번 전시의 주제는 물과 식물이다, 물은 끊임없이 흐르고 샘솟는 유동적이며 영속적인 존재다. 근원을 알 수 없는 깊은 곳에서 솟아오르는 물의 덩이들과 유동하는 푸른색의 수초들!

산자락의 옹달샘과 바다의 웅덩이 블루홀은 솟아 오르고 흐르며 현재와 미래의 생명을 지탱해주는 본질적인 존재다, 물은 생명의 애너지들이 자유롭게 흐르도록 하는 생명의 유체다,

야산이나 논 밭, 공장지대에 버려져 잊혀져 가는 사각의 형태들, 컨태이너, 이미 쓸모를 다한 그것은 시간이 흐르며 버려지고 녹쓸고 잊혀져 간다. 그러나 작고 연약한 식물들에겐 그곳은 더없는 안식처가 된다. 그들은 상자의 벽과 갈라진 틈새, 열린 공간 사이로 덩굴을 뻗어 올리고 꽃을 피운다. 사각의 상자는 작은 식물들의 안식처이자 생명을 품고 기르며 서서히 소멸해간다.
